LaunchBar 6.22: macOS Tahoe Support and New Features

LaunchBar 6.22, released by Objective Development on 13 October 2025, is the keyboard launcher's most substantial update of the past year. It brings improved compatibility with macOS 26 Tahoe, a redesigned index window and Action Editor, a refreshed default theme, and new ways to reach documents in apps such as Fork and MindNode Next. Two follow-up releases in 2026 then added a major accessibility overhaul and new folder sorting options. If you use your Mac for coding, research or heavy file juggling, these updates make LaunchBar a better fit for the current version of macOS.

What's new in LaunchBar 6.22

Built for macOS Tahoe

6.22 improves compatibility with macOS 26 Tahoe and updates the Default theme to match its style. If you preferred the old look, it lives on as a theme called Modest in Settings. Dark themes gained a subtle window border, and several fixes target Tahoe directly, including restoring access to recent documents, which had stopped working on the new system.

Browse more apps with the arrow key

LaunchBar's right-arrow browsing, which lets you dive into an app's contents without opening it, now covers more tools:

• Fork: jump straight to repositories managed by the Git client.
• MindNode Next: open mind map documents directly.
• Cardhop and BusyContacts: browse contacts held in third-party contact managers.

Smaller additions that add up

• Shortcuts selected in LaunchBar can be opened in the Shortcuts app with Command-Return.
• A new Reverse Line Order action flips the order of lines in selected text.
• Clipboard History items can be shown in Large Type with Command-Return.
• Apps embedded in every installed version of Xcode are now indexed.
• URLs and bookmarks show just the hostname as a subtitle, with the full address a right-arrow press away.
• The Action Editor has a modernised interface, and custom actions can use SF Symbols as icons.

Two quick fixes followed: 6.22.1 the same day and 6.22.2 on 14 October 2025, which resolved a freeze on some Intel Macs. All of this is detailed in the LaunchBar release notes.

LaunchBar 6.23 (20 March 2026)

This release brought substantial VoiceOver improvements across LaunchBar, from better descriptions of files, songs and contacts to opening the action menu with VoiceOver-Space. It also added a setting for the default sort order when browsing folders, plus modifier shortcuts to sort on the fly: Command-Right sorts by modification date and Shift-Command-Right by date added. Pasting a URL onto a selected browser now opens it there, System Settings indexing gained the Menu Bar and iCloud panes, and a macOS 26.4 issue that removed the window's shadow was fixed.

LaunchBar 6.24 (27 April 2026)

A smaller update: emoji items now offer a Look Up in Wikipedia action, VoiceOver users can reach the LaunchBar menu with VO-Shift-M, and the window's size and position are remembered after a restart.

Why it matters for students

• Computer science projects: Fork integration means you can jump to the right repository from the keyboard, and Xcode's embedded apps, such as the Simulator, are indexed for quick launching.
• Finding lecture downloads: sorting a folder by date added with Shift-Command-Right brings the slides or reading you downloaded a minute ago to the top of your Downloads folder.
• Research and note-taking: Clipboard History keeps recent copied text, such as quotations and citations, within reach while you write, and Large Type makes a copied item easy to read at a glance.
• Revision maps: if you plan essays or revise in MindNode Next, you can open a specific map without hunting through Finder.
• Automating routines: running or editing Shortcuts from LaunchBar makes it quicker to trigger a study-session shortcut, such as opening your timetable and notes together.
• Accessibility: students who rely on VoiceOver get a far more usable launcher from 6.23 onwards.

Requirements and upgrade details

• The current version, LaunchBar 6.24, runs on macOS Tahoe and is also compatible with macOS Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura and Monterey. Older versions for earlier macOS releases are available from the developer.
• LaunchBar has a 30-day trial. After that, according to the LaunchBar download page, it can still be used unregistered, with occasional prompts inviting you to take a short break.
• 6.22, 6.23 and 6.24 are point releases within LaunchBar 6.
