Unite 6: What's New in BZG's Website-to-App Tool for Mac

BZG released Unite 6 on 3 March 2025, a significant redesign of its Mac tool for turning websites into standalone apps. Unite 6 reworks the app creation tool, adds proper tab management, makes the sidebar a first-class mode and lets you share the apps you build with other Macs. If you spend your day in browser-based tools such as a university VLE, Google Docs, Notion or ChatGPT, it gives each of them its own window, Dock icon and settings instead of leaving them buried among dozens of browser tabs.

What's new in Unite 6

A redesigned creation tool

The tool you use to build a new app has a cleaner interface, quicker launch options, better organisation and new per-app settings. BZG also improved accessibility and added a light mode alongside the existing dark look.

Advanced tab controls

Tabs inside a Unite app can now be pinned, renamed, locked to a URL or isolated so they run independently of other tabs. Unite can also stop you opening duplicate tabs. Keyboard handling was improved too: Command plus a number switches tabs, Command-click opens a link in the background and Shift-Command-T restores a tab you closed by mistake.

Sidebar as a default mode

Sidebar mode, which docks a web app to the edge of the screen, can now be the default mode for an app. It gained tab pinning and renaming, and you can adjust where it sits.

App sharing

Apps you create can be exported and imported across your own Macs, or shared with other licensed Unite users, from the File menu or the app library. That means you set up a web app once and reuse it on a second machine.

Smaller touches

• The toolbar hides and reappears automatically as you open and close tabs.
• Right-clicking a link gives context-aware options, which BZG calls Smart Click.
• PDFs can be viewed or downloaded directly inside a Unite app.
• Saved passwords can be protected with Touch ID.
• Menu bar apps can have their own icon, separate from the app icon, plus global shortcuts and a share sheet.
• You can optionally display the full URL.

Since then

A series of 6.x updates followed through 2025. Versions 6.1 to 6.4 focused on toolbar behaviour, compact app resizing and a lot of password manager reliability work. Unite 6.5, released at the end of October 2025, added native support for macOS 26 Tahoe with a refreshed interface and new icon, per-tab memory for the Find bar, better download file naming and new accessibility descriptions. Unite 6.6 followed in February 2026 with fixes to toolbar state, downloads and tab closing.

In March 2026 BZG launched Unite Pro, a rebuilt successor sold as a separate product. Unite 6 owners are eligible for a discounted upgrade if they want it, but Unite 6 remains a complete app in its own right.

Why it matters for students

A lot of university life now happens in the browser, and keeping it all in one browser window makes it easy to lose track of things. Unite is useful because it lets you separate those services.

• Give your VLE its own app. Turning Moodle, Canvas or Blackboard into a standalone app with a Dock icon means lecture materials are a click away and don't vanish when you close your browser.
• Keep an AI assistant or reference tool in the sidebar. The sidebar mode suits a dictionary, a citation tool or ChatGPT sitting beside the essay you're writing, rather than switching windows each time.
• Organise research with pinned and locked tabs. A Notion or Google Docs app with pinned, renamed tabs for each module keeps your notes structured, and locking a tab to a URL stops you wandering off from the page you need.
• Separate distractions. Putting study tools into their own apps keeps social media and streaming in your main browser, out of sight while you work.
• Work across two Macs. App sharing is handy if you use a university machine and your own laptop.

Requirements and upgrade details

• BZG says Unite 6 was built for macOS 15 and Apple silicon, and version 6.5 added native support for macOS 26 Tahoe.
• Unite 6 was a paid upgrade, with discounted pricing for owners of Unite 4 and Unite 5.
• Updates within the 6.x series, including 6.5, are free for Unite 6 owners.
