MyDraw 8.0: Drawing Explorer, Background Pages and More

Nevron Software released MyDraw 8.0 on 7 July 2026, a new major version of the diagramming app following its 7.x releases in 2025. The update focuses on making large, multi-page drawings easier to organise and faster to edit, adds a new Drawing Explorer and background pages, and continues the work on Microsoft Visio compatibility. If you produce flowcharts, network diagrams, timelines or family trees for your course, and especially if you swap files with people who use Visio, this is the version to look at.

What's new in MyDraw 8.0

Nevron's release announcement lists a set of changes aimed at bigger, more complex documents rather than a visual overhaul. The main additions are below.

Drawing Explorer

The new Drawing Explorer presents your whole document as a tree: pages, layers, groups and individual shapes. Its purpose is to make it easy to find items that are otherwise awkward to reach, such as a shape buried inside a group or an object on a hidden layer. In a crowded diagram, selecting something from a list is often quicker and more accurate than trying to click it on the canvas.

Background pages

MyDraw now supports background pages, which hold elements you want repeated across several pages, such as a logo, a border or a watermark. Items on a background page cannot be changed from the foreground pages that use it, so you will not nudge them by accident, and according to Nevron they are left out when you print or export to PDF. A set of predefined background pages is also included, and these follow the drawing's current theme so the styling stays consistent.

Faster connector routing

The algorithms that route connectors and draw line jumps (the small hops where two lines cross) have been reworked. Nevron says the result is quicker editing and rendering, and the gain should be most noticeable in large drawings with many connections.

A redesigned Start Screen and vector icons

The Start Screen has been rebuilt to give faster access to templates, recently opened files and cloud locations, including Google Drive and Dropbox. Across the interface, icons are now scalable vector graphics, so they stay sharp on Retina and other high-resolution displays.

Visio compatibility and family trees

Visio import and export now handle background pages, and there are improvements to tint and shade colours, spline geometry and text direction. Family tree diagrams also gain male and female symbols next to each person's name, which makes relationships easier to read at a glance.

The 2025 releases that led up to it

Version 8.0 builds on two notable 2025 updates. MyDraw 7.2 (July 2025) added built-in saving and opening from Google Drive and Dropbox, cached cloud fonts, libraries and templates to cut loading times, and fixed several problems affecting different macOS set-ups. MyDraw 7.3 (September 2025) introduced a perpetual licence option for people who prefer a one-off payment and offline use.

Why it matters for students

• Coursework diagrams that stay manageable. Engineering, computing and business students often build diagrams that grow to dozens of shapes across several pages, such as system architectures, process maps or database schemas. The Drawing Explorer makes it far easier to find and fix a single element late in a project.
• Consistent branding for reports and posters. Background pages let you put a university logo, project title or draft watermark on every page once, rather than copying it about and hoping it lines up.
• Working with Visio users. Many departments and placement employers still standardise on Microsoft Visio. Better handling of Visio files means fewer surprises when you hand in a VSDX file or open one from a supervisor.
• Group work across devices. The Google Drive and Dropbox integration added in 7.2, now surfaced on the Start Screen, makes it simpler to keep a shared diagram in one place.
• History and genealogy projects. The clearer family tree symbols help if you are mapping family or dynastic relationships for a history or sociology assignment.

Requirements and upgrade details

• MyDraw 8.0 is available for macOS, Windows and the web, according to the developer.
• Nevron offers both subscription and perpetual licences. The perpetual licence introduced with 7.3 includes lifetime updates on the computers where it is activated, and each licence can be activated on up to three machines.
